Blood Orange Salad
Fruit salads are often pretty lackluster. Some cubed fruit, tossed together and poured into a bowl. Don’t get me wrong, still delicious, but let’s kick it up a bit shall we? With just a few different knife cuts and a few different fruits you can make a gorgeous fruit salad.
And when I say salad I really mean platter. Because that’s the most beautiful way to display something as gorgeous as a blood orange! If you are planning to do something for your mom this Mother’s Day, why not make her brunch and include this as part of the spread?
The oranges are cut in two different ways to make them fancier (!!) and also show off their beauty. With just a few knife cuts you can easily cut them into (a) segments and then (b) slices. But the important thing for this look is that the white pith is cut off of the orange. Watch this quick video to learn how to do it!
Tip: You can cut everything the day before, just store it separately and then assemble before you place it on the table. Easy peasy!

Blood Orange Salad
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 20 minutes
- 2 naval oranges
- 4 blood oranges
- 1 c. blueberries
- 1 c. raspberries
- 1/2 c. pomegranate seeds
- handful of mint
- *Optional: fresh ginger drizzle made with 1 Tbsp. fresh grated ginger + 1 Tbsp. honey + 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
Directions
- Segment the naval oranges. For a demo on how to segment, watch my youtube tutorial above (plus get another delicious salad recipe!).
- To slice the blood orange, begin by preparing the orange the same way you did for the naval oranges except instead of segmenting then in little quarters, simple slice down to get a beautiful cross section of the gorgeous red and pink.
- Now all you have to do is assemble! Stagger the layering of the different orange cuts and add in some blueberries, raspberries, mint leaves and finally finish with pomegranate seeds.
- If you make the optional ginger drizzle, lightly spoon that over the top. Serve and enjoy!
**Note-to make this more of a meal, it’s delicious with avocado, butter lettuce and arugula. Top with some toasted seeds or nuts and, voila!
